After just 6 years our kitchen storage containers were looking pitiful. We had Rubbermaid containers that didn't seal at all and tons of Gladware pieces that are supposed to be disposable, so I decided to host a Tupperware party to get some new stuff. As it turned out I ended up getting just a few new bowls for leftover storage and instead invested in solutions for the pantry and the freezer. Check out my full post for more details as well as before and after pics of our pantry and freezer.
Our freezer has long been an issue for us. Even I have to admit that things tend to fall out when you open the door. We often have multiple bags of the same type of frozen vegetable open because I couldn't find the open one when I was cooking. For January, the hostess special was a complete set of FreezerMate storage pieces. This is a new line that they are just introducing as a hostess only benefit right now. This was a great deal for us since our freezer desperately needed help and I was able to get the entire set for FREE. The set included some tiny containers that I haven't found a use for yet, but I'm sure I will think of something. I think it made a huge difference in our freezer.
I thought our pantry was in pretty good shape but Modular Mates were on sale this month so I decided to pick up a few pieces. I went with an oval set, two rectangular 2's, two mini rectangular 2's and a mini rectangular 1. After reorganizing the pantry with the new pieces I have determined that I need more. I was able to condense several items that were falling out of their cardboard packaging and stack like items together so that it is easier to see what we have. I am very pleased with the effect these containers have had on the pantry. They are also supposed to keep chips, crackers, etc fresher longer which will be a nice benefit as well.
As for my original goal of updating our leftover storage containers I chose two sets of FlatOut containers. These bowls have accordionlike sides that can be stretched to full capacity of 3 or 4 cups respectively, condensed flat for easy storage, or used at three intermediate levels for times when you only need a fraction of the storage capacity. So far I like them but I will have to see how the accordion feature holds up over time.
